Mynah are a Brooklyn based outfit who have self released their debut recording of which the title is the incredibly long winded "Preface1: An informal brunch served as a preface to a 3-day conference" recently. I have been listening to the tracks lately and I find the band to be very reminiscent of the likes of British Sea Power and Love Ends Disaster and joins the ever growing list of US bands influenced by the UK eighties scene. There are five tracks on the EP and "Frank The Tank" is far and away the strongest drawing a lot from British influences, mainly those mentioned previously.
Mynah - Frank The Tank
Mynah - Secret Police
You can download the EP's other tracks and a press release from here. Sadly there is no links to where you can purchase an actual CDR which would have been nice because low bitrate mp3s will not stay on anyones computer for long even if they are vbr!

Wallpaper Silhouettes - New Album Release
0 Comments Published by Tom on Friday, May 27, 2005 at 12:53.
Trondheim, Norway 1999: Wallpaper Silhouettes start out life as New Horizon, a duo formed as most great things are, in the boys’ room.
Trondheim, Norway 2005: Finally someone finds the key to the boys’ room and the band emerges unto the world blinking in the light after name changes, self-financed releases and with a line up now double the size.
Echo The World (We Live In) has a ramshackle charm, off-kilter melodies and delightfully crisp vocals abound. If you’re a fan of the Chameleons, Orange Juice or the Associates then this one’s for you.
Wallpaper Silhouettes - A Need To Know
Wallpaper Silhouettes - Autumn Love
Wallpaper Silhouette’s debut album “Echo The World (We Live In)” is released on Freedom Road Records on June the 6th and costs £10.
Read my previous post about the band. This is a review of the album.

I've have just discovered this East London based band who have been around for a couple of years now. I can't listen to everything :) I've got hold of Golden Square and Bitter Club and mighty fine they are too with the latter being really feisty indie pop and the Chunnel Autumnal CD will be on order once I get paid!
Pipas - tout va bien
Pipas - Wells Street
More tracks can be streamed or download from their label's website page.
Buy The Pipas

Bradleys Almanac have concerts available in mp3 from The Ladybug Transistor, The Lucksmiths and the Pipas to download. I've just got into the Pipas recently so it was good to hear some live tracks from the East london based outfit.
The site also has a Wedding Present concert from April for downloading although as I mentioned previously you can download it in the lossless FLAC format from here.

Ivy - Wish You Would 7"/Avenge 7" (13.3mb)
Link will be removed in one weeks time.
I also received some more information on Ivy thanks to Gary. He writes that "Ivy released an album and a couple of singles on Norwich based label Noisebox. Then morphed into a band called Doolittle who released a split single on Noisebox."
With that extra information I managed to find a page on the band.

The latest album from Wan Light was released earlier this month. It's titled "Carmaline" and includes my favourite single of the year so far "That Grim Reality". The band have been described as Galaxie 500 being remixed by The Postal Service.
Their label Labrador say that "songs like The Beehive kid, Airborne and That Grim Reality are some of the best songs ever released on Labrador". With such a strong roster that's saying something.

As promised earlier in the week today's post sees a new recording from the reformed The Morrisons. The band first appeared in the late 1980's receiving airplay from the likes of John Peel. They didn't last too long the first time around but are now recording again with most of the original line-up. This is what Firestation Records say about the compilation, "Songs From The South Of England":
This CD represents EP tracks and demos from 1986-1988, a time when they were picking up John Peel plays. Indeed they fitted very well into the indie-pop scene of the time, and it may be surprising that Sarah never signed them up. A romantically fey jangle, as you might expect, features throughout but on ‘Ask The Lord’ a brittle, broken accordion melancholy occurs as flighty keys parp. On ‘Heaven Help Us Now’, soulful brass raises the bar, while ‘On A Valentine’ has ruffled shirt, velvetine class. There’s a swing to Dexys Midnight Runners at times, but they are certainly still relevant in 2005. Listen to ‘Ramona’ and ‘God Bless’ and you’ll understand why.
The new track "Helen Singer" carries on in the same vein. A laid back twee like and mellow track!
The Morrisons - Helen Singer
The band have also supplied an mp3 of a track recorded live in 1988.
The Morrisons - Brighter Days
I also reviewed their latest demo EP on SoundsXP earlier this year.
You can download some other tracks from a previous post. An album of rarities is due to be released on Golden Pathway Records later this year.
Buy The Morrisons "Songs From The South Of England" from Firestation Records.

Whilst I was over in Dublin last week I met up with a couple of the Irish writers who, like me, contribute to SoundsXP.
One of them, an old C86'er too, enthused about The Marshal Stars. Heading back across the Irish Sea one of the first things I did was to pop over to their site and listen to a few mp3's. And mighty fine they are too and the best way to describe them is melodic and epic. Whilst the sound/genre is nothing new it's an excellent stab at greatness and I am sure the NME will be jumping on the bandwagon shortly.
The Marshal Stars - A Conscience And A Heart
More tracks are available on the site and these are mainly previews including one of the forthcoming single "Tough As Ol' Boots".
For those in Ireland SoundsXP has started a new forum dedicated to the Irish scene. Use and abuse it!

My Darling You! hail from, well no prizes for guessing and I will leave you to work it out, and have their second CDR out at the moment.
Titled "Moving Out Of Your House And Into Another" it features five indie pop songs that will leave you dizzy! Luckily two tracks have been made available on their website and you can buy the EP here.
My Darling You! - Taxidriver
My Darling You! - Prince John Silver and Gold
Head to their site and you can download a track from their previous EP.

Eurosport is a new band (Swedish naturally) who have released their debut cdr EP on the brand new Songs I Wish I had Written label.
The tunes are of a simple design and also addictive listening. The label states that:
The Stockholm duo Eurosport plays joyful tunes with inspiration from the early nineties dance floors. The directness of the sharp melodies are irresistable and the straightforwardness of the lyrics is a much longed-for contribution to today's pop music. It is with all the honest in are heart we recommend you to "dance and get down with the eurosport beat".
They remind me of Les Rythmes Digitales especially their remix work.
Eurosport - Tell No One About Tonight
Eurosport - Euroheart (Club-mix Edit)
Buy it from here and download another track, "Your Brother Is My Only Hope" too!

I have featured this band before and this post features an exclusive new track. The band make music with a folky 60-ish twee like feel.
The Legendary 10 Seconds - End In Tears
More about the band and three more tracks can be downloaded from the Flaxley Green website - you will need to scroll down. Their previous track I posted is still available on the last posting.
The band members are also part of a reformed Morrisons - new tracks from them will be posted later in the week.

I will be winding up the Sarah Series soon so if you have any requests then please post them under the comments. A new series, based around Ron Jonson records, will start in the next couple of weeks and will blow away the myth that C86 was twee!

See you on 16th May 2005!
See you on 16th May 2005!

I mentioned Spaghetti Vabune! earlier in the week and that I was disappointed to find out that the CDR release I was after had sold out. However I have come across mp3's of the release on the net and have posted them here. As the release was only 100 copies I hope the band, and the label, do not mind this posting. This music needs to be heard. If anyone does please let me know and I will delete the links.
I have had no luck contcting the (Japanese site) to try and get hold of the bands CD's either. But I am still trying!

I also found the Spring Boutique release as well. It was minus the track "So Twee" but I have added it from the track previously downloaded from the bands' site. Again this was a limited run of 100 and as before if posting this offends the band or the label let me know and the link will be removed. You can download the EP here.

I have been playing the mp3's to death so I have finally picked up The Lovekevins EP "Blame The English" which you can order here.
It's a great EP, full of entertaining songs and they have made some available on their site.
The Lovekevins - Stop Being Perfect
To download the other tracks head for the audio page on the Lovekevins site.

Two excellent Wedding Present sessions have turned up on Dime, the Bit Torrent Trading site. One is a Peel Session from 21/09/04 whilst the other is a session for XFM dated 08/02/05.
Both sessions are in the mp2 format which is the standard use for digital radio broadcasts. You also need to register on the site before downloading.
There is also a concert (28/04/05) in the lossless FLAC format. Only download if you have a broadband connection!
Firstly an update on Edwyn Collins who has now contacted the MRSA virus in hospital. He has been battling the bug for a few weeks and indie mp3 wishes him well in his recovery.
I have been sent a few e-mails the past couple of weeks from bands after a plug and will round them up here.
Yasumi Okano from the band Xinlisupreme writes to say that they have posted a free web mp3 single on their site. Titled "Zouave`s Blue" it comes in two mixes and i can only describe it as noise pop. Not my bag but I am sure others will like it. The band also plan to release an entire album online on July 11th so kudos to them for that. You can download the single from here.
The Commercials are a US band seeking UK exposure. I downloaded " If I Don't Come Home Tonight" which was melodic indie rock. You can download it and another track from the band's Pure Volume page. Alternatively you can stream them here. The band are looking to play some dates in the UK. If you are interested let me know and I will pass the details on.
Brian, a member of the band The Hypertonics writes to say that they have posted their entire mp3 catalog and the reasons for this are explained on this page. I have listen to a few tracks and they are not bad. You can download their entire archive in a zip file too or you can head direct for the mp3's here.
Finally Christine from Skipping Stones records invites you to listen to C86 inspired indie pop from bands on the label. These include The Besties, an excellent band who I have featured before and The Charade. Members of The Charade may be known to you as they are also in The Shermans and Happydeadmen. Both tracks below are well worth a download and so are the many mp3's on the Happydeadmen site linked to above.
The Charade - Monday Morning
The Besties - Pirate Song

Spaghetti Vabune! are a Japanese indie pop band and it looks like they have been around for a couple of years now. I came across them the other day and was impressed enough to order their CDR which sadly was unavailable. I will have to search a bit harder to try and track down their songs but luckily in the meantime this pop nugget is available in mp3!
