A group of remixers have got together and remixed Primal Scream's "Screamadelica" and have made it available via the web. Titled "Screamixadelica" it also features a bonus track in the form of the track "Screamadelica" which was only available on the Dixie Narco EP.
The Project page states:
There's no reason for this. How do you improve upon perfection? You don't. We don't pretend to think this comes close to the Scream's masterpiece, but then nothing else does. So what primalscreamremixed.com offers is a different spin, moving from chill through dub via glitch to drum & bass. Not a million miles away from the eclecticism of the source.
It's only available as a bit torrent file at present and the remixers would like a donation to charity if you enjoy the album. Head here to download. Spoilt Victorian Child have posted some mp3's from the album.
EDIT: Tracks now available as mp3's instead of the Bit Torrent download.
Previous projects have included:
The Clash - London Booted
The Prodigy - Always Outsiders, Never Undone
The chemical Brothers - Flip The Switch

Labrador, the home of all things good about Swedish indie pop have made available another digital single for downloading, free of charge.
By [ingenting], the only band on the label to sing in their native Swedish, it's titled "En bättre dag" and is available as an mp3 or broadband busting wav. And mighty fine it is too!

I received an e-mail from Mark Whitby, who is an author of a new book about the John Peel Festive 50. I have repeated it below:
My book, "The Festive Fifty", comes out in May via the independent Nevin Publishing. The book's been in production for some time but, following the death of John Peel, I wanted desperately to get it out and putting it out in a small way myself seemed the right way to do it - made it feel more like "Suspect Device" or "Atmosphere", I suppose, more Peel.
As somebody with an interest in the Festive Fifty, please receive an attachment with an extract from the "records and statistics" part of the book, which I'm more than happy for you to put on your website. If you do, I'd be grateful if you'd also carry the information that the book can be obtained directly from the publishers at:
Nevin Publishing
PO Box 194
Widnes
Cheshire
WA8 7WU
People can also ask at bookshops (the ISBN is 0-9548317-0-5). At the moment, there's a limited print run due to the publisher being a small scale operation, but the ISBN should help the shop to track it down.
The book covers:
A complete history of the Festive Fifty, with commentary on each year and entries of particular interest
A complete alphabetical list of every band to appear, with details of personnel who took part
The top fifty bands to appear in the Festive Fifty, with biography
The top fifty albums in terms of tracks placed in the Festive Fifty
A comprehensive records and statistics section, with everything from bands with most entries down to most successful session tracks, cover versions, electronic/dance tracks, all-female tracks, long tracks, short tracks, continental European tracks, tracks from outside Europe and North America, record labels, etc.
I also attach a copy of an order form that you can use to request copies. They're £14.95 inclusive of postage. Please contact me if you are interested in receiving any copies. I would also be able to offer discounts on quantities of ten or more books.
Extract from the book (pdf)
Order Form (pdf)
It certainly looks interesting and I will pick up a copy. For those who don't know there is an excellent section about the Festive 50 on Rocklist.

Download last week's track of the week which was Blueboy's Clearer single from 1991 released on Sarah Records.
Blueboy - Clearer (10.5mb)
You may be aware that I am running a series on Sarah Records at the moment. Any requests? (but please don't ask for bands recently re-issued on CD such as The Field Mice or Brighter). Leave them under comments.

I have refrained from posting all week to give the Punk of Country Post greater exposure. If you have not downloaded the track below (or the one at It's A trap) then do so as you are missing out - these tracks are by far and away the best things they have done in my humble opinion.
Despite a viral infection I made it to The Barfly on Tuesday night to see The National. They are getting exposure over here based on their new album "Alligator". Whilst I found them to be fantastic in parts they also became very U2 like with their slower songs. Like Interpol they also use the UK 1980's music scene (Ok just Joy Division then) as a source of inspiration.
I see the album has just turned up on e-music. You can get it free if you are a new subscriber. You can stream the album here. Find out what one of my SoundsXP colleagues thought of the gig.
The lack of posts have seen me searching out new blogs. These are my favourites:
The Perfumed Garden. Named after an old John Peel show this site is posting sessions from mainly indie bands so far. I missed last weeks Field Mice posting but there is camera Obscura up there at the moment. It's a sahme that the mp3's are in 128 k/bits. I would have liked a little higher. I must dig out some Shop Assistant Peel sessions and send to the blog owner.
Burning World. Blog concentrating on various bands, old and new. Some good tracks posted including the excellent Bridge Gang! I liked the raw punk of The Spits!
Teenage Kicks 3000 - Another site dedicated to the late John Peel. Features whole shows as well as Peel sessions. Head over there now to download a truly superb Undertones Session from 2003.
Regnyouth Archives - Not sure I should be posting this link! A round up of albums posted on the net by file sharers.

Swedish indie rockers Punk Of Country have today released two exclusive mp3's and I am proud to say that one of them is via this blog. I have featured the band before and with this release they not only show how their sound is developing but also how you can use the web to promote yourselves. Nice one chaps!
Punk Of Country - What about in the morning?
The second exclusive can be found at It's A Trap and you can downlaod it from the current mp3 playlist on the front page.

Belle and Sebastian are releasing their first compilation shortly. Titled "Push Barman To Open Old Wounds", it will be released by Jeepster Recordings on May 23rd 2005. The 25 tracks are taken from the band's seven Jeepster EPs and singles.

The Strip Squad are band based in the south Of Sweden. They say that they "enjoy to undress a little while drinking" alongside their love of food, nauture and popular culture. That may give you an idea of the fun sort of music they produce.
The band recently released the Just Obey EP! which has been in my player for a couple of weeks now with it's infectious tracks which you can luckily download from their site.
From The Just Obey EP!
The Strip Squad - If You Don't take Me Right Away You Might As Well Fuck Off
From the forthcoming EP:
Strip Squad - Pervert/Expert
Remember to head to their site to download the rest of the EP but if you want to buy it (not even three Euros!) head to the usual place where these diamonds are unearthered, Songs I Wish I had Written.

Teen Anthems is a compilation of artists that appeared on the Sonic Art Union label, whom all seem to be the work of one John William Davies. I have been playing the album since it popped through my door (thanks John!) Some of it is great, especially the Helen Love inspired indie pop of Teen Anthems and Supercute. Some of it is awful - this is down to the comedy based happy hardcore of The Steps Pistols.
My favourite tracks are "I Hate Oasis (And I Hate The Beatles) and "What A Girl Wants". I admire the spirit of this album and I think 15 tracks in 30 minutes tells it's own story. Fast, fun, furious and good as long as you press skip on the Step Pistols tracks.
The album is available from the Teen Anthems shop for £11 and they accept Paypal. The Supercute single "Jamie Theakston" can be bought at Damaged Goods.
Teen Anthems - The Great Alternative Band
Teen Anthems - What A Girl Wants (punk rock mix)

One of my current faves Dyrdin have posted a new track on their website. Titled "Wake Up" it is sung in English this time and not their native Icelandic. This might win them a few more fans although to be honest they make great music regardless of what lingo they are singing in!
The band have also recruited a new member so hopefully some new material is in the offing soon!
Some excellent pictures of the band here too. Nice t-shirts (hint hint) but I doubt a skinny rib would fit me.
Dyrdin - Wake Up
More tunes available on their site. I recommend "17 Juni" and "Snjófólk "
Strange Reaction is a blog I have been visiting recently. It specialises it old punk rarities. Head over there now for a fantastic slab of Bad Brains.

I saw Interpol on Saturday night at the Brixton Academy and mighty fine they were too even though we were high up in the circles. One had one too many fine Youngs Ales in the Trinity Arms (surely the best pre drinks venue in Brixton these days) earlier and I was not up for writing a review! However there is a review up for the Dublin gig from last week on Sounds XP.
No tracks linked in this post but if you head to You Ain't No Picasso and scroll down a bit you can download a bootleg of Interpol KCRW broadcast. Not sure of the date but judging by the tracklist it looks like a pre-"Antics" show.

The Bridge Gang hail from my "hometown", the London Borough of Hackney. They have not been together too long but have been getting some good reviews on the back of a demo released earlier this year. They remind me of Strokes meet Bloc Party in a funny sort of way. See what you think. Either way they are bloody excellent!
The Bridge Gang - Sarah's Brother
The Bridge Gang - Pangs Of Guilt
One of my fellow writers at Sounds XP like 'em - you can read more about them here and here.
I had a busy week last week and was unable to update the blog as much as I would have liked so just to catch up on a couple of things.
First up is Chris Price. I have featured Chris before. The tracks for his first EP have now been mixed and he has now made the mastered version of "Charge Me Up" for download (he had previously made a rough mix of this track available). This track has a nice poppy feel to it and Chris has been compared to the likes of New Order and Devo. This is a link to a piece on the Washington Post where you can find out more.
Chris Price - Charge Me Up (Mastered Version)
I am sure many of you have visited Hello! Surprise! which is a guide to Swedish pop music with many mp3's available. It's an excellent resource to what is happening in Sweden right now. Anyway Rokk Is is a similar resource for Icelandic underground bands to post their mp3's. It covers a range of genres but is well worth a poke around. Not sure about some of the Metal bands though! Sticking with Icelandic music smekkleysa.net is an English language portal and there is plenty to find under samples & stuff. Thanks to Magnús for the links and he advises downlaoding some of these tracks from the latter site:
Maus - How far Is Too Far (the best indie band in Iceland according to Magnús)
Singapore Sling - Overdriver
Slowblow - Dusty Couch
Heading back to Sweden the people behind the excellent Songs I Wish I had Written mail order site have a new project that has started running. Lovely Sweden will be a compilation of the cream of Swedens pop crop and is due for release in May or June. It also plans to be a guide for non-Swedish visitors to discover music, what to buy/download etc. It looks an exciting project!

Chemikal Underground issued this announcement today concerning The Delgados.
"The Delgados, influential figures in Glasgow's independent music scene for over 10 years, have announced that they are to amicably disband. The reason has been put down to the departure of their bass player Stewart Henderson who informed the band in the New Year that he did not wish to make another album. The Delgados have always been known as uniquely collaborative songwriters and as such, it was decided that the band could not continue without all of its original members.
The Delgados leave behind them 5 critically acclaimed albums including The Great Eastern, Hate and last year's Universal Audio. Their two principal songwriters Emma Pollock and Alun Woodward will be pursuing individual projects and drummer Paul Savage will continue production duties at the band's Chem19 Studios in Hamilton.
The four friends will continue to run their record label Chemikal Underground in this, its 10th Anniversary year, with releases scheduled for Malcolm Middleton, Mother & The Addicts and Arab Strap. They are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported The Delgados over the course of their career".

Indiepages.com once hosted the archives for indie mp3 which was very kind of them. It's an excellent resource mainly for those in the music business but they have some goodies for the casual surfer as well. These include the sounds pages where they post their current faves and update this on a monthly basis.
I suggest you head over there now as they currently have tracks from the hard to find james Dean Experience, The Close Lobsters, The Primitives and many more.
They have a splendid shop full of goodies and in case you hadn't noticed a thing about tigers.
One of the labels Indie Pages hosts for is the excellent Matinee. Here is a selection of tracks from that label - others, such as The Happy Couple and The Lucksmiths, have been featured on the blog before.
Lovejoy - Sid Vicious
Pipas - Wells Street
The Pines - High Street

The links from the last week's postings on the main site. Again hosted by Rapidshare. Anyway in future they will be posted as one zip or rar archive.

The news that my bank manager did not want to hear is that Labrador, surely one of the best labels in Sweden and maybe Europe, have now started to accept Paypal - thanks to Think Small for the tip off.
I have raided it already picking up the new singles or recent singles by Acid House Kings, Sabassadeur, Radio Dept and an old EP by Leslies.

Leslies - The Girl From Collins Avenue (mp3)

I was browsing through the links seeing where visitors to the blog had come from and I noticed this one. Apart from the kind words some of them said about the site scroll down to the bottom where you will find some Another Sunny Day Tracks including "Green", "I'm In Love With A Girl Who Doesn't Know I exist" and of course "You Should All Be Murdered".
As you may know Another Sunny Day were on Sarah Records. Someone last year kindly sent me the whole catalogue on mp3. I was thinking of running a series of Sarah tracks just like the Postcard one I recently did. Any requests? (except for the Field Mice who recently have had their back catalogue re-issued and The Orchids who I believe will be having a compilation out in due course). If so leave them under the comments.
The series will be run on the main site and not the blog!

The Happy Couple (who are German and not Swedish!!!) have a new EP out now. The Fools In Love EP is released on Matinee and you can download a track, "Another Sunny Day" from it. You can find out how to buy it here.

I have noticed the emergence of a Brighton based club dedicated to playing music from Sweden. In that case the not so originaly named Sweden Made Me have their next night tomorrow (2nd April 2005) and I sadly missed their set at the last How Does It Feel To be Loved night. The set lists look as tasty as Swedish Meatballs (stereotype pun - apologies) and the beer is not as expensive as in Stockholm! Hopefully they will come back to London soon!
Just what is it about Sweden these days? Band after band producing high quality music putting the UK scene to shame. The latest in this long line are Springfactory who have just recently released their debut self-titled cdr. Their songs have a somehwhat naive charm about them and the band themselves say they are about "love, getting old, getting fat, trying hard not to get fat and old and friendship."
Springfactory - Get Out Of Bed
