I previously avoided Music Download Com as I presumed it would be like mp3.com which lets face it had some dross and the files were a very lukewarm 128 k/bits. It's different this time around. Quality mp3's and I have yet to download a really duff track. These are links to some tracks I have been enjoying over the pass couple of weeks mainly from the punk category. I will make my through the indiepop category this week and post links to any decent tunes next week.

I received an e-mail from Steve who has just set up an mp3 blog called Turquoise Days which may be of interest to those who like C86 and indiepop. Head over there now and download two tracks from Stump including a single version of "Buffalo" which was different to the one that appeared on C86. He has also posted the "Charlton Heston" single. I think days may be a bit more colourful with Turquoise Days (bad pun intended).
I have been getting a few e-mails since asking did unsigned bands or fledging labels want their music featured on Indie MP3. So far there has been some that I don't feel fit in with what Indie MP3 is about i.e. not from that genre etc so rather than ignore them I thought I would place their links on this blog.
First up is Amethyst Fallen who claim Similar Artists like Days of the New, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilot. If you want to give them a listen visit their page on music.download.com where they have two songs available for downloading.

Bearsuit released their new single last week and you can download it from the bands website.
Matt from the band writes: thought you might like to know about the free mp3s that can be downloaded free from our band website - www.bearsuit.co.uk - this includes the new single which is due for release on monday (15/11/04) by fortuna pop.
just visit the music page - www.bearsuit.co.uk/music.htm and the discography page - www.bearsuit.co.uk/discography.htm - for links to downloads. cheers. matt
If you only download one other track from the site make sure it's "itsuko got married" - wonderful stuff!
I have been trawling through some of Music.Download.Com recently, mainly amongst the punk and indie-pop section. I came across The Besties who make some great indie-pop sounds.
If you like Heavenly or The Aislers Set amongst others then you will like this lot.

I will post links to other gems I have come across in the future.
The Wedding Present "Interstate 5"

Just got my hands on the new Wedding Present single and a mighty fine epic it is too. Complete with all the Gedge ingredients; slow, fast, sorrowful lyrics, big finale etc! Regardless of the name of the band Gedge puts out top quality music. It's not available at Scopitones yet but Amazon, as always, has it. Amazing how Cinerama never cracked the charts but the same band with the name reverted back to Wedding Present goes straight in at number 12!
Listen to the tracks at the Westnet Weddoes site - you will need to click on the track list image.
Gedge also played High Does It Feel To Be Loved on Friday. Sadly I couldn't make it but the last time I saw him DJ there his setlist was erm shite! Judging by a comment on the HDIFTBL message board nowt has changed - It was a bit packed and the guest DJ played some reet crap!
I saw Interpol at The Forum last night. A good performance but I did think that most of their songs are now sounding the same - live at least. One of the people I went with proclaimed it was the best gig she has ever seen. I am not sure about that though but they did a cracking version of "untitled" to close the set.
Support was from Bloc Party who have cracked the UK charts with their "Helicopter" single.
Interpol MP3's from Espew:
Interpol - Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down
Interpol - Lief Erikson
Bloc Party - Banquet
The Wolfhounds have had some CDR's released titled "My Life As A Young Idiot". These are cleaned up bootlegs and taken from private recordings. I am looking forward to the C86 gig at the ICA which was a cracker by all counts. Details about the release and how to purchase them can be found here.
The Wolfhounds - Non Specific Song (Live)
The Wolfhounds - Cruelty (Live)
The Wolfhounds - Deadthink (Live)
I saw Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds last night. An enjoyable show only ruined by the acoustics at the Brixton Academy. Why is this venue considered to be London's best? The place was rammed so no surprise to learn that he is playing there again tonight and tomorrow.
The backing gospel singers were superb. The first part of the show was playing tracks from the current albums "Abattoir Blues" & "The Lyre of Orpheus" whilst the encore, sorry second part of the show was dedicated to the older stuff. All in all splendid stuff.
A bumper crop of mp3's thanks to espew.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Into My Arms
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Weeping Song
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - I Let Love In
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Stagger Lee
An Idiots Guide To Dreaming have also been to see Cave. A good review too!
The Wedding Present were part of a series on BBC Radio 6 recently. This was looking at bands focussing on the alternative 80's. The programme is well worth a listen especially as Gedge states he would "rather record Peel Sessions than actual albums"!
You will need to download Real Player to listen to the programmme. I recommend using Real Alternative than the bloated Real Player.

Visit this page to listen to the rest of the series which covers The Echo & The Bunnymen, Jesus & Mary Chain and The Cure.
I found this interesting mash up on the net recently. My Bloody Valentines's "Soon" mixed with someone called Lumidee. Maybe I am giving my age away but I have never heard of him/her. A quick search reveals who Lumidee is. Anyway an enjoyable track in two versions but the instrumental version is better.

The most fitting tribute I read to John Peel following his death last week was in a letter to The Independent from The Dawn Parade. They have repeated it on their websites home page and the last paragraph is a telling one:
John was that rarest of things: someone who gave a damn. Someone who really cared. Someone with soul. In 2004, the music industry can give birth to baby gods in time for the Christmas singles boom and discard them like dead turkeys before twelfth night, but this one quality Soul - it can't imitate, brand and manufacture, and Peel had as much musical soul as anyone who ever lived. John Peel was number one, and he lives on in all the music he's inspired.
The Dawn Parade - The Passion
Download many more tracks from their site's download page.
I saw the Loves last night in the smallest venue I have ever been in! The downstairs at the Besty Trotwood only holds 40 people at the most! The band, whilst not wholly original, were great sounding like a cross between the 60's and C86. This apparently is the second incarnation of the band who record for the excellent Track & Field Label. Not sure why I haven't heard them before.
The Loves - Just Like Bobby D
Their website seems to be down but their return seems to have stirred up a hornets nest on BBC Wales.
