Tom wrote about the Vivian Girls a few days ago - here - sadly I was a little slow off the mark and the LP has already sold out. But I had a few weeks previously ordered the single 'Wild Eyes' and it finally arrived this week and I got the goosebumps when I played it - it's just the kind of girlie indiepop that I absolutely love - I can hear echoes of 80s greats here - but that's not to say that these New Yorkers are mere throwbacks - this is music that sounds great right now. The B Side 'My Baby Wants Me Dead' is also rather wonderful - as it starts all upbeat with some fine guitar noise - before the vocals come in and it briefly lulls before rocking out big style (Dinosaur Jr? anyone?) and then ending! There were just 1000 of these little beauties made (200 Clear, 100 pink and 700 black vinyl). I suggest you snap one up - as this is a fabulous little single.
As I missed out on the the limited debut LP - I will have to wait until it's re-issued on Into The Red Records in the Autumn.
