A quick My Space round up.

I have stumbled across a handful of decent bands via My Space this past few days. I'm going to round them up, two at a time. Starting with The Lucid Dream and The Monorals.

The first are The Lucid Dream a quintet from Carlisle, England. The band are very much influenced by bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Stooges and Spiritualized. The band have 3 songs for streaming on My Space and they're all fairly good. Pick of the bunch is 'I Got The Devil' which comes closest to the Mary Chain sound. If I had one criticism it would be that the three songs are all very different - one sounding very Spiritualized, another in debt to The Mary Chain and the other 60s Garage rock. It seems the band could be all three things - the trick is trying to meld all their influences into one co-herent sound. Despite this reservation - they're worth a listen.

The Monorals are a Japanese Garage rock band. Their My Space page states that the band were formed in 1998. Last year they self released a single on Cisumratuig Records. The single is called 'Fly Song EP'. And if the edited version of 'Fly Song' is anything to go by it's going to be a stunning little EP. Lovingly lo-fi and kind of perfect to these ears. The band describe their sound as Jesus and Mary Chain meets Guitar Wolf and My Bloody Valentine in punk rock 1977. Yes, exactly. I think I see what they mean. Either way - this sound is just the sort of thing that gets me going.
