Pitchfork are reporting that The Jesus and Mary Chain are finally set to release a 4 CD set collecting up rare B sides, alternate versions, demos and even a smattering of never released songs. The Boxset is set to be released by Rhino records in September. It's full title is "The Power of Negative Thinking: B-Sides & Rarities". The tracklist is over on Pitchfork and it seems to run in chronological order - starting with early demos - right through to their final B side recordings for Creation in 1998.Sadly, the Boxset is not a complete set as it misses a few live only recordings (like Mushroom, which did appear on Barbed Wire Kisses back in 1988). But for fans of The Jesus and Mary Chain this is sure to be a must own release.
No Alaska Studios version of "In A Hole" recorded with the 1st single (canned due to Joe Foster's piss-poor production), no "Jesus Suck" and nothing from the early 'drum machine' demos. Still, it's pretty comprehensive otherwise.
It's the unfamiliar songs and alternate versions that's getting me excited! It's been a long time coming.
