Attic Lights - Bring You Down Remixes

Hot on the heels of the review of the latest Attic Lights single Bring You Down a remix EP containing six remixes of the song drops through the post box although to be honest I would rather hear some more of the bands original material.
That said the Mogwai mix is a short, minimalist but surprisingly likeable affair but is it really worth owning? Camera Obscura, with the standout mix, turn the song into a Pet Sounds out take with hand claps and surf pop vocals so get that deckchair out now! Jim Noir turns it into an electro pop ditty but by the fourth remix in it all becomes a bit tiresome and if anyone can tell me the point of the Found Barbiture mix then I will pleased to hear from them.
Luckily the fast forward button comes to the rescue. The Found Cut & Paste remix replaces most of the the original instruments over a pleasant but ultimately unsatisfying beat which does not serves any purpose as it fails to make any improvement or enhance the original. The Let's Go Outside remix turns the track into a minimal techno affair mixed with some of the original percussion which I doubt would be of any interest to the bands fans or anyone else for that matter.
When a mix works it works wel1 but ultimately here they are all a bit pointless with the exception of the Camera Obscura remix which takes a great track and makes it just a bit more special.
I presume these mixes will be released alongside the single on the 7th July although it's not clear in what formats.

I strongly disagree. I take it the reviewer is not a fan of or has any knowledge of electronic dance music. For those who are fans of techno, this remix is a must have. I can see fans of the band not getting into this one, though.
I happen to be a massive fan of techno Amy and have been for many years. I say my knowledge of said genre is better than average but I don't claim to be an expert. However that remix isn't very good. Glad you like it though!
The question is why six mixes of this track? The original is good enough.

For people like me who need something for the dancefloor. I doubt you'll hear any DJs playing the original out at a club. A lot of bands have been getting dance music artists to remix them in order to get their music into that scene. I think these remixes serve their purpose well. It exposes the band to new audiences.
>For people like me who need something for the dancefloor<
Is the current techno/electronica scene so devoid of new and exciting tracks that you need to rely on a remix of a guitar based band to get dancing?
>I doubt you'll hear any DJs playing the original out at a club<
I would. Depends what club doesn't it?
>A lot of bands have been getting dance music artists to remix them in order to get their music into that scene.<
Surely you mean it's a major label getting punters to buy the same song over a variety of formats? Apart from that is their any valid reason why a guitar base band would want to become part of the minimal techno scene?
>It exposes the band to new audiences.<
Is that a term for marketing strategy? You see Amy I have seen this all before. In the late 80's early 90's the labels had remixes done of nearly every tune made by a guitar base band in a desperate attempt to recoup their investment. It even became a short lived scene called indie dance. It wasn't very good although Andrew Weatherall's remixes still get played by me today. Now he is good maybe he should have mixed the track? ;o)
So what's your connection to the remixes/label/band seeing as you have never visited indie mp3 before and only this post has warranted your attention?
Anyway whatever the reason this is a good debate!
Tom, the purpose of a remix is not necessarily to improve upon the original, but to broaden its reach. Any betterment or atrophy from the original is a byproduct of this goal. Artist x remixes artist y because artist x has a larger or different following. This potentially means more sales, popularity, gigs, etc. This is why labels hire remixers. This is basic, common knowledge to anyone even remotely involved in modern music.
Does everything need a reason to be valid? I like some of the remixes you don't because they sound good to my ears. I'm not letting a song's background influence my opinion of it. The end product is all that matters in music. And that is subjective. I, for one, prefer all of these remixes to the original. I believe they have improved upon it by making it come closer to my tastes.

I have only as much connection as you do -- I received the same promo in the mail. I was just looking online for other reactions and this was the only site that Google returned. Thus, this is the first time I've visited. Calm down, there is no conspiracy. It's just one reviewer seeing what others had to say out of sheer curiosity.
> Anyway whatever the reason this is a good debate!
This isn't a debate; you are playing semantics. "Depends what club"? Come on, Tom, you obviously know what I mean. Ridiculous...
Well lets agree to differ! You say it's about broadening the reach of a band and I say it's flogging a dead horse and neither of us are going to budge from those viewpoints.
>Thus, this is the first time I've visited. Calm down, there is no conspiracy. <
Well you wouldn't have been the first! So who do you write for Amy? Do you have a link? Be interested in reading your review.
>you are playing semantics<
For someone who uses the word atrophy that made me chuckle!
