This week in Sweden (part 1)

Some news from You Are Awesome - a Swedish collective dedicated to bring you the best in Swedish independent music - be that MP3s, releases, shows and so on. They recently emailed about up coming releases by Bjorn Kleinhenz. There are two MP3s available for download those being:
Bjorn Kleinhenz - The Quest For Your Heart
Bjorn Kleinhenz - Poets Dying
Both are decent little songs - a little like The Acid House Kings crossed with some American indiepop like The Lil Hospital. Bjorn is actually from Germany (but has lived in Sweden most of his life!) - but I am not going to let a technicality like that stop him from appearing in this Swedish flavoured post. He has a My Space - it can be found here.
The Paper Merhcants are a quartet from Sweden - but unlike a lot of Swede Pop featured on Indie-mp3 - The band take their cues from My Bloody Valentine and 80s synth pop. The three songs on their My Space show some promise (strongest song being 'The Lovers') without doing enough to get me truly excited. The band plan to release an EP in the near future simply called 'The Paper Merchants EP'.
Oh Laura hail from Stockholm and they're a typical Swedish pop - with a hint of Americana. This is nice and gentle sounding - but it's a sound I am tiring of lately. We've all heard Club 8, The Acid House Kings and the like enough to know how this pop is going to sound. This is a long way from bad - but it's not doing enough to make me think 'Wow' this is great. I am sure a whole host of people will like this easy listening Swedish pop. You can stream some songs on the My Space.
Last up we have Wonderland Records. The label was formed out of Wonderland Records (the shop - which was started in 1994), In 2004 it morphed into a fully fledge Record Label and has since released countless records. There are a whole host of songs for streaming and download on the Label's website. I haven't had a chance to listen to it all yet, but their seems to be a spattering of electro pop as well as some guitar based stuff available. Like I said - there are loads of songs to stream and download - dive in and see whether you can find anything that takes your fancy. I have been quite taken with Universal Poplab which is uplifting electro pop. Perfect for a sunny Saturday afternoon.
