Ladyjanes - Grandes Exitos

Ladyjanes are a quartet from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Something a little more punky for the indie fans to get their teeth into. 'Grandes Exitos' is their début LP and it comes on like a cross between grunge circa 1990/91 and some old school punk rock. The overall sound is a little shabby and loose around the edges - which is not always a bad thing. If you remember Portuguese punks The Parkinsons you'll not be far away from what the Ladyjanes sound like. There's a healthy dose of Iggy Pop love going on here. As a début low budget punk record it's not bad - but it's a little generic and the cover of 'These Boots Were Made For Walking' is way too formulaic to be anything other than cringe worthy. Elsewhere you pretty much get some fairly standard grungy punk rock - the female singer, Flora, bringing the bands sound closer to Hole or Babes In Toyland at times. This isn't going to set the world on fire - but if you want to hear some no nonsense punk rock - you could do worse than this - so take a listen on the bands My Space (link above).
