Is there much indie pop around now that sounds like 1960's Baroque Pop? Off the top of my head I can't think of too much aside from Teenage Fanclub or possibly the Shins but maybe that will change if others follow the lead of The End Of Summer On Bookbinder Road by Swedes Cocoanut Groove. It's brand new but you have the feeling you have heard it all before. As long as it sounds as good as this who cares if the wheel has been re-invented? This is a great single full of melodramatic sounds via a range of instruments courtesy of one Olov Antonsson who writes, sings and arranges everything. Talented lad he is too and in order to demonstrate this further head to the flip side Shadow which sounds like a long lost folk classic from yesteryear. Lovely stuff!
The End Of Summer On Bookbinder Road is out now on Phonic Kidnapping Records. It's very limited so you had better get your hands on it sharpish!
