Captain Polaroid - In Miracle World EP

Birmimgham’s Captain Polaroid has always been a reliable source of good lo-fi pop songs, and this week he put out a great new EP called In Miracle World on the Filthy Little Angles label. There are some wonderful fuzzy guitars on this EP, and they sit along side brittle vocals which sing about satire and awkwardness in social situations. He certainly manages to capture the sound some of the influences he cites such as Urusai Yatsura and The Wedding Present but manages to mash them all up to make his own musical identity.
Opening song A Dream is a Dream is a Dream is Lie is a superb example of Captain Polaroid’s sound with an upbeat tune and introverted lyrics. It’s a great opener for the EP, which takes you through more guitar fuzz moments with ‘The Same Rules Always Apply’ before finishing on two more reflective acoustic songs with quieter arrangements.
The EP is handmade and limited to, um, 25 copies – so if you like what you hear below then you should probably make your way quickly to a ‘buy now’ button somewhere. All the songs are available for free download though, and you can also find several more downloads on the Filthy Little Angels website, from earlier EPs and albums.
