Bon Bon Club are a Sheffield based band who feature the rhythm section of The Long Blondes as well as Chapatti Smith from Slow Down Tallahassee and Navvy on vocals.Their début single features three cover versions - Lullaby by The Cure, Pulp's Love Is Blind and Romantic Rights by Death From Above which were recorded last summer. I have to put my hand up and say I have not heard the latter two in their original form.
As you would expect from a band consisting primarily of a rhythm section these tracks are bass and drums heavy. On Lullaby this becomes a pulsating but driving beat with Chapatti's vocals meticulously wary of the original. However the formula is repeated to a tee on the EP's remaining tracks which become just a tad predictable in their execution. For me the novelty wears off after a few plays and my original optimism soon gives way to repetition. A disappointing single from a great label.
The single will be released on limited edition grey vinyl by Thee SPC on June 23rd 2008.

The original Love Is Blind is awesome! Very early Pulp are still the best.
