Baby Grand - Coming True

Baby Grand hail from Sacramento, California and I first came across them after I found out that Leon Levy, formerly of The Frenchmen, is now their bassist.

I have been listening to the band's 2007 self released Coming True EP and if you have any ideas that the band may sound like The Frenchmen then get rid of that conception now! Baby Grand play a fine brand of indie pop not far removed from the likes of The Hermit Crabs, Camera Obscura and Belle and Sebastian. Indeed singer/guitarist Gerri White voice sounds not too dissimilar to Melanie Whittle's at it's finest.

From the EP's opener Everything You Say to the closing track the band produce well written songs that are consistently strong in their approach but gentle in their actual sound. The songs are wispful and folkish inspired. They also possess charming hooks and melodies none more so than My Heart Is Here which is one of the loveliest songs I have heard in ages. This is the soundtrack to your dreams on a hazy summers day.
