Century sees The Long Blondes going disco but not in the way of the Bee Gees but rather heading for the dancefloor in the manner of the ghosts of Sheffield's past. Think early Human League or Heaven 17 for starters.Flip side, The Unbearable Lightness of Buildings, mixes in sounds of the steel city's industrial past whilst Kate Jackson talks over said beat in the manner of a Non record.
Not something I thought I would hear The Long Blondes producing and you would expect to hear this type of music at the Death Disco! Surprisingly refreshing.
Century is out now on Rough Trade on limited 7" vinyl and download formats. The new album Couples is out on Monday 7th April 2008.
