The latest split release on Brainlove 7" Single Club sees Friends Of The Bride and Modernaire sharing two tracks each. Friends of The Bride provide two slices of of indie swing with frontman Bobby G crooning away as if he was providing the soundtrack to an old black and white TV series from years gone by. On Hey Bubby Bobby G sings "Hey Buddy – I’m a Friend of the Bride". Listening to this we are all too. Let us in chaps - we are late for the service.Modernaire surprisingly outshine FoTB with two pieces of tasty retro sounding pop. Faites Vos Jeux invokes comparisons with Soft Cell remixed by Linx with Kate Bush on vocals whilst the band get into the groove on Taste which has bits of electro pop, jazz and swing all battling for supremacy at various points of the record. This is the sort of music I would have read about in my youth in Smash Hits magazine and denied ever liking. Top stuff.
