The Happy Dancing EP is the direct result of Birmingham based KateGoes winning the PRS Foundation Unsigned Award 2007.The band are the latest in the line of bands that I describe as having a DIY ethos. Their sound is sometimes a bit odd (but delightful) and they use a variety of instruments/noises on their songs. Because of this their cartoon pop sounds also possesses, for the want of better words, childlike qualities. The title track has a positive vibe and is reminiscent of Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. But Happy Dancing is for life and not just for that particular festive period. It's as catchy as Spanish flu, will leave you smiling and is definitely one for the indie pop dance floor!
As for the other two tracks Kung Fu Movie should really have named checked Carl Douglas for some street cred (or not as the case maybe!) but don't that detract you from the fun! Are We Lovers Or Siamese Twins they wonder on Heartbeat which happens to be one of the lullabies they sing about during the song itself. If "cute-core" was a genre KateGoes would be amongst it's leading lights.
The EP is available now from Fopp. You can stream a live version of Happy Dancing via My Space.
