I probably got this stuff sent sometime in September, but I have a knack for postponing things indefinitely. Apparently Super Volcano is a band from Baltimore featuring James Wolff and Elliot Stevenson. My initial impression when listening to them was that there was something terribly wrong, it was like there were two songs playing at the same time, I thought my winamp was playing one song while perhaps Myspace was spewing out a different song at the same time. This turned out not to be the case, and after the initial confusion the songs began to really grow on me. The infernal racket can be explained by what appears to be deliberate attempts at creating jumbled drum beats that appear to be out of synch but turn out to be carefully constructed.
I'm guessing they've listened to their fair share of King Crimson, at least the drums, and not least the thumping bass, bear some resemblance to that fine band. However their more recent songs featured on their Myspace page are considerably lighter, or at least not as drastically much off-beat as the four songs on this demo CD. I actually like the earlier stuff much better. They appear to be unsigned but undoubtedly have the passion and skills to create more great music.
You can purchase the four songs from this demo CD on their Myspace page, however seeing that two of them have already been made available for download, I'll offer them here as well. See what you can make of this.
