The Foster Kids

The Foster Kids are a five piece pop band from Norwich. They sent me their self released EP to review a few weeks back and after a hectic start to 2008 I have finally found the time to give it a spin. And what do I make of the EP? Well - this isn't really indiepop music - it's more straight up 80's tinged guitar pop - recalling The Beautiful South to these ears - maybe that's the female/male vocals helping to shape my thoughts. It seems it is a comparison the band have had before.

The EP contains 6 songs and not one of them is bad per se and the band obviously have an ear for a catchy tune. My favourite of the 6 on offer is 'Foster Kid'. Saying all that - It's still all a little light weight and fluffy for me. I'm not a huge fan of The Beautiful South (I preferred the edgier sounds of The Housemartins). But for those that like their 'pop' music this might just do it for you. It leaves me hankering for something a little harder, a little less Beautiful South.
