Top Of The Division

I was at the Interpol gig last week when I really should had been at The Icicles show. I like Interpol and that whole post punk retro sound but I found their show a tad boring and being in the Alexandra Place didn't help matters. The latest album Our Love To Admire was pretty dull stuff too.

Luckily Kings Die Kings are around. A new band who were founded in Edinburgh during 2006 they recreate the spirit of Joy Division far better than Interpol or the likes of The Editors have managed recently. Singer Keith Routledge does sound uncannily like Ian Curtis but what else would suit music this dark brooding gothic sound? It's certainly not original so much so that songs like Erosion could have been outakes from Unknown Pleasures. However it's a good introduction to those being exposed to this type of sound for the first time.

The debut EP is due for release in March 2008. Until then head over here and stream some songs.
