Think About Life are a band from Canada. I just picked up their single 'Paul Cries' from Escalator Records in Japan. It's a rather wonderful single - the 'A' Side 'Pail Cries' starts with a heavily distorted mix of guitars and keyboards before a pounding disco beat kicks. This is a twisted and mashed up take on indiepop. Think Helen Love meets Das Wanderlust with a dash of Bis. I love it. It's a refreshing sound. The single was apparently released about a year ago and can now only be obtained from Japan. The 'B' side is called 'Going Deaf in the Summer' and it's another quirky slice of pop music, easier on the ear, but it still manages to sound lop-sided and slighly unhinged. The band have a website and a My Space - both of which tell you very little about the band. But they do have the lead song from the single to download.
Think About Life - Paul Cries
After receiving the single today - I decided to see whether there was an LP from the band available and there is. It's a self-titled debut LP . Being impatient I managed to find the LP on Emusic and promptly downloaded. The LP is a mess. A rather fine mess, though. Again the sound is sometimes shouty, often electronic and always slightly off-kilter. It will really appeal to those that like their pop music a little more challenging. I have only played the 10 songs on the LP once and I already know that I will be going back for more listens as it's sounds so removed from anything I have heard lately. Whether I come to love the whole LP remains to be seen. But first impressions are favourable.
