It would be the first and simple thing to do. Describe Stockholm's Those Dancing Days as a Swedish version of The Pipettes and be done with the review. But there is more to it than that.Whilst there are some similarities in a girl group sound Those Dancing Days go further with hints of Northern Soul, 1950's rock n roll and good old fashioned indie pop with all their songs centring on the thumping rhythms of a hammond organ.
Both songs on this 7" single are strong a song as you are likely to hear on any debut single. Those Dancing Days is a dance music for indie pop kids. The bass and synth go in perfect harmony with the gorgeous vocals courtesy of Linnea, not to mention the drums that pound away in unison! Flip side 1000 Words takes a trip down retro lane and I for one would imagine playing it in a 21st cenury diner if we made them the way we used to. It's pop music with soul. And as for the Pipettes. Na! They sound nothing like 'em.
Those Dancing Days is out now on Wichita. A maxi CD version featuring the wonderful Hitten is out on V2 Scandanavia (Wichita's parent company) in Europe although it's lined up as the band's second UK release. If you can wait that long that is!
