If you are like myself, and our latest contributor to indie mp3 Angustus, in having the belief that indie pop has it's roots in the post punk era of Glasgow and Edinburgh then the next Soup Kitchen night should be tailor made for you. It's a special dedicated to the sounds of independent Scotland. You will likely hear us paying homage to Orange Juice, The Pastels, Author! Author!, Josef K, Fire Engines, BMX Bandits, Soup Dragons, The Associates, Teenage Fan Club, Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Belle & Sebastian, Ballboy, Camera Obscura, Shop Assistants, Fizzbombs and the Cocteau Twins amongst others.
Alongside the regular dj's there will be guest sets from Jamie Holman formerly of Track & Fields finest Tompaulin and now of The Fischers. He will be joined by Chimes, the founder of the excellent Penelope Tree & Ten Year Plan club nights.
The Soup Kitchen takes place on November 24th 2007 downstairs at The Royal George, Goslett Yard, 133 Charing Cross Rd, London, WC2H 0EA between 8pm and 1am. Entry is free!
The Soup Kitchen is a new quarterly club night set up by Trev and Tom.B so they and their friends can spin their favourite discs to anyone who wants to listen and maybe have a dance. Alongside the regular dose of indie pop, alternative rock, Swedish sounds and girl bands there will be a theme running through each night. This may comprise of tracks from one particular label, a band, a city or even a year!
