The Pristines - Cloudberry 59

Another month, another batch of Cloudberries. As is often the case the bands are often new to me. But I have come to trust Cloudberry Records enough to buy their releases en block. The latest load dropped in the post yesterday morning and the one I have been playing more than most is by The Pristines. A band I knew nothing about. It seems The Pristines have been around for ages (at least 15 years, it seems). They are from Coventry, England and as their website states the name of the band was chosen on a whim because they were all fans of Sarah Records and in particular 'Pristine Christine' by The Sea Urchins. That's a good enough reason to be interested in the band. Luckily the three songs on their Cloudberry release are all very good - the songs on the EP are ' All Washed Out', 'Numb' and 'Good Things Never Come De
spite The Wait'. It's beautifully fuzzy guitar pop just like it was in the olden days. Think C86 meets early shoegaze and you'll be extremely warm. For those that don't know Cloudberry Records - they specialise in finely put together 3" CDr limited edition singles and they currently release at least 4 singles a month and they are up to release number 59 - this one!
The Pristines have released countless CDs, records and cassettes down the years on a multitude of labels. They have also taken to self releasing their own stuff these days and yes I intend to investigate their back catalogue shortly.
