Dean & Britta - White Horses

Dean & Britta are Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500/Luna) and his wife Britta Phillips (Belltower/Luna). White Horses is a version of the track that appeared earlier this year on the Back Numbers album. The song itself is a cover of Jacky's 1968 hit which was also the theme tune to a children's programme on Serbian television at the time.

The song comes in two slightly different versions. First up is the remix by Sonic Boom which nods it's head towards the former Spacemen 3 frontman's previous flirtations with an ambient sound. It's lovely but is still bettered on the version Francaise which heads into dreamy baroque pop territory with great success. You may swear you can even hear Francoise Hardy on there at one point. If White Horses wasn't a kitsch classic before it certainly is now.

White Horses is out now on Sonic Cathedral Records.

You can listen to an interview and four songs, including White Horses, recorded for World Cafe (WXPN) here.
