Boat - Let's Drag Our Feet! (Magic Marker)

I first came across Boat last year with their LP 'Songs That You Might Not Like' - which was a collection of old self released songs and some new versions of said self recorded songs. That LP was a lovely sloppy pop record. It took me at least 6 months for their lo-fi charms to fully work their magic on me. Over time I came to really like this LP. It would be one of those records I would come back to, even after a few weeks of exciting new sounds. I'd somehow end up listening to Boat again. They became a comfortable pair of slippers. That's not to say that Boat are boring. They're not. They're just one of those bands that never fail me. I am always in the mood to hear Boat - whatever mood I tend to find myself in.

So I was delighted when I heard that Magic Marker would be releasing a brand new LP by Boat. I got my grubby paws on their new LP 'Let's Drag Our Feet!' a few days ago. This LP has been more of an instant hit with me. I am not sure whether this is because I am now tuned into Boat and their slack indie pop sounds or whether it's actually a more cohesive set of songs. Either way, this is a cracking little LP. There is something undeniably American about the sound that Boat make. I am thinking of bands like The Smittens, Tullycraft and other luminaries of the current US indiepop scene (I dislike the word scene, but I really can not think of a better word to use here, sorry!). So if you have heard those bands you'll get the idea of what Boat offer. Good tunes and a slightly off kilter take on guitar pop. Which is always a recipe for success to these ears.
