In The Navvy

One of the bands we put on at last nights Lost Music Presents gig was Navvy who were previously unknown to me and were booked before I came on board to Lost Music. However after witnessing their impressive set I set out to discover more.

The band come from Sheffield comprising of Claire (drums, vocals), Daf (guitar), Marie (percussion) and Keith (vocals, bass). Claire is in fellow Sheffield indie popsters Slow Down Tallahassee.

Navvy had some catchy songs which reminded me of a number of bands from the post punk era such as Pere Ubu and Gang of Four. However the band they strongly reminded me of was The Fire Engines which was mainly due to the percussion although Keith's vocals also contributed to this effect. Eat your heart out Franz Ferdinand!

They were due to release an EP on Angular Recordings back in May but that seems to have been delayed. They have contributed a track My New Building to the aforementioned labels Future Love Songs compilation which you can pick up here.

Sadly there are no songs available for downloading. However Spaces and Time can be streamed via their My Space page.

Navvy play White Heat at Madame Jojo's tomorrow night (Tuesday 2nd October 2007). I cannot recommend them highly enough.
