Clinic - Funf

Clinic are one of those bands that seem to exist outside of music. As a band they keep releasing records. People must buy them. They do live shows. But they're one of those bands that seem to get ignored. Maybe their is a secret underground Clinic appreciation society that I have no knowledge of. I first stumbled upon the band in the late 1990s and their release 'Voot'. I have since been a fan of the band without ever managing to see them live. I don't even have all their LPs. But whenever I hear something by Clinic, it's instantly recognisable as them. Much like The Fall always manage to sound like The Fall whilst changing and evolving.

I was slow on the the uptake with 'Funf'. Which came out back in the summer. It's a compilation of 'B' sides spanning 10 years of releases. And after listening to the LP it makes me wonder why I wasn't more of Clinic completest. These 12 songs would grace many peoples main releases, let alone, be considered 'B' side material. If you haven't heard Clinic before they have a sound that encompasses dirty grinding guitars, whirling organs and their songs are often a war of attritional noises. It's a rather grand racket. One day I will get to see them live.
