Whilst digging around the Internet and listening to Black Kites I stumbled upon this 19 track compilation from Filthy Little Angels record label. The whole album is dedicated tAnthony Howard Wilson (20 February 1950 – 10 August 2007) and it is, I'm sure, something he would have enjoyed. The basic principle is a load of bands covering records that were released in 1987. A simple concept. Some of the songs are better than others, as is always the way with compilation releases. My favourites are the already reviewed Black Kites, The Leatherettes doing The Vaselines 'Son of a Gun', and Hyperbubble taking on Men Without Hats song 'Pop Goes The World' and The Black Tulips stomping all over The Smiths classic 'Shoplifters of the World Unite'.
The Black Tulips - Shoplifters of the World Unite
The Leatherettes - Son of a Gun
Hyperbubble - Pop Goes The World
The whole 19 tracks are available to download here
