Brown Recluse Sings are a 6 piece band from Philadelphia and after reading about the band over on Scatterbrain recently I was intrigued enough to check the band out. The band have released one EP entitled 'Black Sunday' back in 2006. My copy of the CD arrived a few days ago and I have been playing it constantly since then. The band make music to soothe the soul with a laid back pop sound that utilises simple melodies with keyboards and horns augmenting the gently strumming guitars. The band can deliver songs that sound mournful and heart broken whilst maintaining the pop sensibilities that make them so good. This is the sort of band that I can see people taking to their heart and obsessing over. The 6 songs on the EP are just beautiful. The band have a new LP due out soon - it's to be called 'The Soft Skin' and I have been sent a song from the LP as a preview. 'Night Train' is, if anything, even more poppy than the previous EP - if it's a true indication of what is coming on the new record we are all in for a treat. A delicious and irresistible pop treat.
