Black Kites - Emergency Exit EP

Black Kites are a band from Los Angeles. The 'Emergency Exit EP' is a download only release that is coming out on September 24th from the good folk at Filthy Little Angels. The bands sound is a very good mix of indie and more dreamy guitars. Opening song 'What To Do In Case Of Emergency' has a great sound and the vocals of Evelyn Reyes are beautiful and distinctive. I can hear echoes of Galaxie 500/Velvet Underground shining through, guitars shimmer, but all of this is happily wrapped up in a tune that most bands would give their right arm for. The 'B' Side (should such a thing exist on a download only release) is also rather fab. It's called 'Slow Exit'.Neither of these songs are currently available to stream on the bands My Space. But they do have four others up including a cover of 'Lucretia, My Reflection' which was originally released by The Sisters of Mercy. The band strip the song back and give it a more haunting treatment. I always had a soft spot for the original (don't look at me like that) - but this low-key version works just as well for me. You can download this MP3 directly from the Filthy Little Angels site and I have added the link here.
