Jan Mayen

The Besties played an awesome gig here in Reykjavik on wednesday. Due to the fact that Iceland has little tradition of Indiepop, let alone Twee, the band shared a stage with a few solid rock bands, and foremost among them were Jan Mayen who have just released an excellent album in Iceland, "So much better than your normal life". The band first appeared on the horizon in 2003 with the release of an EP, and a year later their debut full-length was released by Bad Taste, and was nominated for three awards at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2005. Jan Mayen have honed their live shows to near perfection and are a delight to watch, though for some reason they absolutely refuse to headline.

Londoners can catch them playing at The Luminaire on september 26th. Here's one of my favorite songs from the new album, and I also recommend "Joyride" and "Nick Cave" which you can stream from their Myspace page.
