The Milestone Corporation - Songs About Steven

The Milestone Corporation have a new EP out at the moment as a free digital download. It's the follow up last years Big Night Out EP and is titled Songs About Steven.

In between the releases the band have been busy playing gigs in their native Sweden and facing an upheaval when their old drummer decided to leave the band. After recruiting a replacement the band headed into the studio and Songs About Steven are the first fruits.

Like most Swedish bands TMC look towards the UK for inspiration. However, unlike their contemporaries, the band look towards the 60's and Brit-pop rather than the C86 era we automatically assume that a Swedish band will take their cues from. Whilst indie rock isn't generally the first thing I would play parts of this EP are not bad at all. But on the other side of the coin!

Parts of it gets a bit too MOR for my liking and Black Bag and Girl have some moments where I cringe as the band get caught at the crossroads not knowing what they actually want to produce. On the other hand with Steven the band demonstrate, when looking to the sounds of Manchester (Stone Rose, Oasis) for inspiration, they can make a pretty good sound indeed.

If you want a physical medium both EP's can be ordered from the bands website where the rest of the EP can also be downloaded.
