Melys, which means sweet in Welsh, hail from Betws-y-Coed, forming in 1996. The band were favourites of the late John Peel and recorded seven sessions as well as other recordings for his show.The band have released four albums the latest being 2005's Life's Too Short but it is a single taken from their second album Suikerspin that they may be best known for. Chinese Whsipers topped the Festive 50 for 2001 with it's mix of delicate vocals and then loud, thrashing melodic guitars.
I reviewed the bands last album for Sounds XP. Despite having a couple of good tracks the album was a disappointment and I felt many of the songs were getting bogged down. You can read the review here. The bands website has not been updated since that release and they commendably have no My Space presence so I am not sure what they are doing at present.
