The Acutes/Wild Beasts Single Reviews

Set On You by Leeds based The Acutes is the follow up to last years excellent When I Left Work Today début. It's a much more poppier and less frantic effort this time round and the track has a nice summery feel flowing through it. Flip side Rumba slows things down further being a lo-fi meets the pub blues mix. These two are capable of making some pretty decent distinct tunes indeed!
Wild Beasts début single Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants was unique and owed much to singer Hayden Thorpe's vocals. I felt that in time the novelty value of Thorpe's vocals would wear off. Whilst they haven't (just yet) on new single Through Dark Night the song itself is the aural equivalent of spaghetti junction and I am left wondering what the purpose of this messy affair is.Flip side Please, Sir is much more clever, being a night out on the town at the indie opera and may have been the better choice for the a-side.
