Scarred For Life

Some bands just make sure they never get in your way, falling off your radar over the years and this was the case with the Scars for me.

Whilst I knew the name I didn't know that much about them and as they were not in the Top 40 in my youth I wasn't aware of their sound either. My interest was kindled by the fact Lemon Jelly sampled their 1979 single Horrorshow on the track 79 - The Shouty Track from the 64 - 95 album in 2005. I also caught the band when they joined Lemon Jelly and performed with them on the afore-mentioned track on stage. A mate then lent we the album and it went from there.

Why am I sharing this with you? Well a post about them on Unpopular not only informed me that their only album, 1981's Author! Author! was being re-issued on CD along with a number of extra tracks but also reminded me I had a number of live tracks I had been meaning to post since coming across them a while back.

The tracks were recorded in the Netherlands in 1981 and a week apart. The recording in Groningen was on the 09/08/1981 whilst the one from Rotterdam was recorded on 16/08/1981. I guess these are tape recordings from either UK or Dutch radio.

You can read more about the Scars at Wikipedia or stream/download a track or two from their My Space page.

adult/ery was one of my favourite tunes as a nipper - the guitar was cheesgrater gone mad - but i was horridly dissappointed by the lp - they'd gone all new romantic or something. i'm curious how it sounds now...

Fantastic news-the rerelease, that is....always was a favourite classic of mine of the eighties. Thanks for the live stuff!
