Wolfie

I mentioned The Like Young a while ago on this blog, a great band now sadly disbanded. Then today I finally got around to listening to some stuff I downloaded ages ago, including a compilation of Indiepop bands, out of which a band named Wolfie towered far above the rest, including Beat Happening, Talulah Gosh, Tullycraft and The Field Mice, nice as they are though.

So I looked around for information about Wolfie, and turns out that two of it's members, Joe and Amanda, went on to form The Like Young in 2002. Listening to Wolfie again, the likeness is unquestionable, although I never thought of one when listening to the other. And so, here's this unbeatable Wolfie song for you guys, and be sure to check out The Like Young also, especially their copious download section.

Wolfie - Hey It's Finally Yay

The song is from Wolfie's debut album Awful Mess Mistery, which can be bought here.

I loved Wolfie, but to suggest that they towered above Talulah Gosh, Beat Happening and Tullycraft is just crazy! I own ALL the Wolfie albums and I can tell you that they progressively got worse... where Tullycraft are still releasing records that just keep getting better! "Hey, It's Finally Yay" was on their first album and the best song they ever recorded. It was all down hill from here.

Yes, I admit this may be something of an overstatement on my behalf. What I probably meant to say was that on this compilation I enjoy this particular song more than the others :) Sorry to hear this was Wolfie's greatest moment :/ But Amanda and Joe had some pretty spectacular moments later on in The Like Young!

Though AMM may be the best Wolfie album, I'm gonna have to stand up for the other two (Where's Wolfie and Tall Dark Hill). They're important albums in my personal music history. And to be honest, I find myself returning the the latter two albums more often.
