Track Of The Week 03/12/2006 - Toad

A few weeks back one of this blogs regular readers got in touch wanting to find out any information on the band Toad. I had never heard of them so I suggested he supply me with some tracks to see if they would jog anyone's memory. So what do we know? We think they came from the Henley area but that's it. The tracks here came from a demo tape called Hang On! which was released in 1989.

Who were Toad? Does anyone know the names of the band members and did they go on to be members of other bands? If anyone knows please contact me and I will forward the info onto readers of this blog and of course the person who supplied me with the tracks (tapes on their way back soon).

The tracks themselves are pretty good. They were recorded during the period where UK was changing it's musical culture, moving from guitar orientated bands to electronic ones in the aftermath of rave culture and "baggy". Maybe that's why the band remain unknown?

Toad were the first band I saw after I moved to Oxford in '89, I remember them being a geeky Brilliant Corners style act, pretty good in parts. I've a feeling some of the members went on to be in bands called The Biros and Elvis, both of which bravely carried aloft the torch of quirkiness at a time when such a thing was severely uncool. Oxford had quite a Quirk Scene going back then!
