Wild Beasts - Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants

Not since JJ72's October Swimmer will vocals, such as those provided here by Wild Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe, get you either applauding or cursing when you first hear them. The vocals are well out of the ordinary (as is the song title) on Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants and they are jaw dropping on first listen. Pitching his vocals somewhere between Brian Moloko, The Pirates of Penzance and Anthony (he of the Johnsons) they provide the perfect balance for the bands jazzy, almost funky, approach to indie pop. Additionally the vocals present a "glam" edge to the music being more Bowie than say Sweet. It's toned down on The Old Dog but the high pitch makes an appearance for good effect.
Only time will tell if the novelty of Thorpe's Falsettos will start to wear off but until then have a listen to something quite unique!
