First Of The Giants (Single Reviews #2)

First Of The Giants - Obsessive Compolsive

I have noticed more and more bands playing what I can only describe as an epic sounding version of indie rock which draws it's influences from the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Division, Wah! or even early U2. Alongside the obvious beneficiaries of this sound such as British Sea Power or The Brakes I can now add Bristol based four piece First Of The Giants with their latest single Obsessive Compulsive.

Listening to the three tracks that make up the single (with Who Needs Enemies? being the standout track) you soon become aware that it is pretty majestic stuff. Imposing guitars that sound like crashing waves and gliding, soaring vocals imprint their images into the listeners conciousness. You can easily imagine this lot clad in long, dark raincoats standing on a beach with storms overhead circa 1983. Well recommended.

Obsessive Compolsive is out now on Littlethink Records.
