The Answering Machine

The Answering Machine (a great name for a band) are a three piece out of Manchester. They are releasing a new single on the excellent High Voltage label on October 16th. It's titled Oklahoma and is backed by The Hold Up.

Both tracks are available for streaming on their My Space page. The band are clearly influenced by bands across the pond such as The Pixies and The Strokes which they mix to nice effect with an underlying indie pop sound.

I can hear plenty of similarities with The Bridge Gang although they do not sound as tight or loud as the Hackney based threesome. I put this down to their use of a drum machine which is called, oh the wit, Mustapha Beat. It sounds slightly artificial in many places but the guitars and bass manage to take your attention away from this. However getting a drummer may well improve things all round. This lot are definitely a group to keep your eyes and ears open for in the future.
