The Strange Idols Have Good Intentions!

London's Strange Idols were described by Playlouder as a curious combination of C86ish sub-swagger with the force of its Postcard forebears and an occasional sprinkling of Talking Headsy martial funk. Well parts of that description got me interested in listening to their four tunes on My Space.
The best song was Intentions Sometimes with the band reminding me of Blondie for some reason despite actually not sounding like them. I guess it must have be down to singer Laura's vocals. There was definately more than a hint of The Long Blondes on She's Gonna Let You Down Again which would be a good choice for a single. X- Ray Vision and Berlin were just as good again with Laura's vocals being prevalent but not dominating the music. This is excellent pop with plenty of influences from the likes of New Order and Postcard records shining through! A band to investigate further I feel.
Strange Idols - Intentions Sometimes
The bands debut single It's No Fun is due to be released on October 16th on Shady Lane Records. They also have plenty of London dates lined up so visit their My Space page for more information.
