The Briganties

The Briganties come from Edinburgh and the Scottish borders taking their name from an ancient celt tribe who came from that area. However I am not going to tell you about the band and will leave that to one Soapywhitewash who writes about the bands demo:

The Briganties are on a mission to bring indie back. Whether it actually went away is a matter for debate. One thing's for sure they seem more than capable of giving it a bit of a rocket up its arse. Like many a Briganties tune, you could be forgiven for thinking the opening track ‘Forever in Our Minds’ is a lost anthem from they days of sun hats, shit trousers and union jacks on everything. It sweeps, soars and borrows a line or two from Pink Floyd as it builds to a moving climax. It really could be a Manc classic. What may come as a surprise is 6 lads from the north EAST are responsible for it.

‘How Was It for You?’ jingles, jangles and breezes on its merry way through 3 short toe tapping minutes. ‘Covert Operation’ is a less joyous affair which starts off nice enough, but doesn’t really go anywhere and labours a little until it’s finally cut short by a fade out. All is forgiven however, as ‘The Girl Heaven Sold to the World’ more than makes up for this minor misdemeanour. It has such a romantic air about it you could imagine biscuit arsed couples claiming it as ‘our tune’.

It pains me to say it because I’m a right miserable get and kissing arse only gets your lips layered in shite, but all in all this IS a worthy demo and at least a couple of the tracks here could be a fixture of any future indie disco. Infinitely better than some of the vintage zip-up topped floppy haired bunch subject themselves to nowadays. Of course I’m bound to say as I long to be in The Briganties MySpace Top 8 of sycophants chart! Credit where credit’s due though, it is good stuff, shit clothes and hair mind!
