Back To The Planet were one of those bands who took their inspiration from the alternative lifesytyle/traveller scene in the early 1990's and were similar in outlook to the likes of Senser and Radical Dance Fraction. They played a mix of pop, reggae and dub. They were regulars on the festival circuit and they also appeared at the infamous Castlemorton rave which later saw the then Conservative Governnment implement parts of the Criminal Justice Act. This act was designed to prevent raves and discriminated against anyone with an alternative lifestyle. It also speeded up the decline of the then UK rave culture which now seems to be making a comeback judging by recent news stories.
Whilst sympathising with the bands views I wasn't a great fan of their music and only picked up Daydream (1993) because it had a remix by Orbital who were and remain so, one of my all time favourite acts. It's not all jangle pop around here you know!
Back To The Planet did not have much success despite their large festival following and soon joined the pile of forgotten bands up in the sky. Sadly there is very little about them on the net which really sums up the impact they had.

Back To The Planet - Daydream (Orbital remix)
This is the first in an irregular series about my favourite remixes that have a home in my music collection.

Exactly the same reason I bought that single! I thought I was the only one!
I also seem to remember some of my mates fancied the singer...
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I have this (for the same reasons... just for the Orbital mix) on a scratched old 7" (it played at 33 for Christ's sake!) since I was a teenager, and have been looking for a clean copy of it for aaaages! One of my all time fave favourite remixes as well. Well... everything Orbital did is... nearly...
You, my friend, are a star!
man I am glad I found this download, I loved B2TP. I did a Google on Back To The Planet and your site came up...I have been looking for years for some B2TP music and it is impossible to find. One of the best gigs I ever went to was Chumbawamba, Credit To The Nation and Back To The Planet in Kentish Town. Chumba obviously went on to success and their music is easy to find. C2TN and B2TP seemed to vanish into the ether. I have since moved to the US and good luck finding anything over here.
If you know where I could buy some of these guys music I would be so friggin happy. I will pay cash money for anything available...but for now these 2 songs will keep me happy
cheers
