Angular Crescent (that's a shoegazing band name if I ever heard one) are a one man band hailing from Cape Town, South Africa. Miguel Pedro is the brainchild behind the project bringing in co-conspirators as and when required. There are three tracks available for downloading and the main influences are 4AD bands such as The Cocteau Twins and Robin Guthrie's Bella Union label. The band sound so much like the former on Incarnate and on parts of Oceanic it's uncanny. It's hard to review tracks which sounds so much like others suffice to say it's a good choice. I mean they could have been Travis fans instead! Both tracks are worth downloading especially as there are no Cocteau twins anymore.
Sadly there is a downside and that is Summerswoon and I feel it's my duty to warn you that man has been known to commit murder for less. The vocals don't help and it sounds like one of those Enigma songs which were all the rage in the early 1990's and now appear on compilations for New Age living - or so I'm told.
These tracks are a couple of years old now so as Miguel is working on some new material I'm intrigued to hear what they sound like, hoping that they have established their own identity rather than sounding like their obvious influences.
Miguel is also the bassist for Sue Is Fine. They have one track available and whilst not essential it is worth a listen if you have the time and it sounds like a poppier take on the shoegazing sound.
