The Acutes - When I Left Work Today

The Acutes are Leeds based David Kitchen (guitar/vocals) & Matthew Shallcross (drums). When I Left Work Today, which is their debut single, packs a fine punch dispatching the listener to the canvas.

Get that image out your head that a duo consisting of a drummer and guitarist are going to be yet another White Stripe's clone. This is certainly not the case with The Acutes and their spunky brand of indie pop. This is highly driven stuff with fast, frantic guitar melodies accompanied by quick fire vocals with lyrics to match. Then there is the serious drumming that marches into your senses before you have the chance to blink. They slow things down a notch or two on the b-side Man In Me but that's no bad thing especially as it gives Kitchen to demonstrate another angle to his vocals. One of the better singles I have heard this past week.

When I Left Work Today is out on 25th September 2005 on Bad Sneakers.
