Aaron Schroeder (Listening Challenge #1)

Aaron Schroeder is currently based in Kennewick, Washington. I can’t see any reason he would have to lie about this, but having listened to his country-styled strumming you would swear he was from one of the more southerly American states. His music suggests he somehow belongs elsewhere. Indeed it looks like Schroeder himself knows this; his self-released debut CD is entitled “Southern Heart In Western Skin”. If you take into account the numerous dropped “g’s” in the song titles (“A Movin’, Movin’ Train” and “Rollin’ Tennessee”), then you’ll have an indication of the sound that Schroeder and his acoustic and lap-steel guitars produce. Take a girl’s hand and swing her round the dance floor. “Santa Ana” in particular, is a good, old-fashioned knees up.
Schroeder states The Mountain Goats as an influence and this is clear due to the lyrical strength. Schroeder is a story teller with a fun sound behind his engaging vocals. He is also a bit of a literature buff, "My lyrics are adaptations of things I've read, including various Yiddish, Arabic, and American folk tales."
The 9 track debut album, “Southern Heart In Western Skin”, is available to buy from CD Baby or from paypal via Schroeder’s My Space link
