Hailing from a basement in Seattle, Math and Physics Club may give you the ridiculous idea that many indie-poppers are inherently nerds. Which I of course wholeheartedly support. And ridiculous ideas are more often than not very good ideas. James, Charles, Kevin, Saundrah and Ethan got the idea to record a demo in the aforementioned basement, in 2004, and submitted the demo to some of their favorite record labels. Now, I've always held firmly onto the belief that if one doesn't try, nothing happens, so trying can't possibly make things worse. And indeed, a few weeks later Matinée Records, home of f.e. The Lucksmiths and Pipas, got in touch with them, and released a 4 song EP in february 2004.
Furthermore, July 1st saw them release a split "7 single with Acid House Kings, Love Ninjas and Sambassadeur. You can check out all their releases here.
And they're performing at the NE Popfest in october. See what they look like live in this toe-tapping video to the song Weekends away. And here are a couple of songs:

SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET OF THE MATH AND PHYSICS CLUB! A Google search of Kevin Emerson (Math & Physics Club) sheds light on a "funky" past. In 2001 Kevin Emerson's band SOULWORK received the Boston Music Award award for "Best Funk Band". The band had bumper stickers printed that said: "Groove is Good - Soulwork is a seriously groovy band". What do the Matinee fans think of this?
Hardly a skeleton! Kevin's diverse background makes him an incredible drummer! It is silly to assume that we would corner our musical experiences into one genre. Check out Kevin's band, Central Services http://www.centralservicesmusic.net/
That's hardly the scariest skeleton in our collectice closet. Try harder please.
Er, collective closet. I agree to try harder too.
It looks like the wheels are coming off the Math and Physics Club wagon. How on earth you can defend that Steely Dan tribute band called Central Services I will never know! You guys need to get together and update Kevin's record collection. "Groove is Good?" This is simply inexcusable! Are you guys that desperate for band members, or are the Math and Physics Club working towards becoming "a seriously groovy band?"
Actually, we've always considered Math and Physics Club to be a funk band first and foremost, but I guess we're just really bad at it. Sorry to disappoint you, Nobby.
