NE Popfest 2006 #4 - The Besties

The Besties. A punk rock band from Brooklyn though one could be tempted to think otherwise judging from their songs. Readers of this blog should be familiar with them by now. They've been making impossibly catchy .... punk tunes to impossible lyrics about zombies, aliens, pirates and cowboys, all accompanied by the wacky drum beats of the aptly named "shit kicker"... until now.

News of The Besties include the demise of the hitherto belowed shit kicker (aka Marisa's keyboard) and they've recruited a drummer named Frank of Shumai fame. It will be interesting to hear them with a live drummer, though I loved the drum machine immediately when I first heard them.

Last february saw the release of their debut album "Singer", and this august will apparently see their next release on "the worlds tiniest label", Hugpatch. In fact it will be Hugpatch's first release, and the second release will be a single with Elefant band Nosoträsh. You can catch The Besties growling their Green Day inspired punk songs on the second evening of New England Popfest.
