The Loft - Single Review

When The Loft split somewhat acrimoniously in 1985 few would have bet on them reforming some 21 years later complete with the somewhat condescending godfathers of indie tag. The band have been gigging again showcasing some new material resulting in the double a side Model Village/Rickerty Frame. It's their first release since 1985's wonderful Up The Hill And Down The Slope on Creation discounting 1989's posthumous roundup Once Around The Fair.

Has it been worth the wait? Simply put yes and I guess once you have class you will never lose it. The trademark Loft sound complete with the jangling guitars are still there as are the almost sullen vocals of Pete Astor. Model Village is a melancholy affair whilst Rickerty Frame is the livelier of the two as they hurry to finish the song before it's subject's wheels come off. And they still sing about the rain!

21 years you say? It's like they have never been away. Buy it!

The 7" single is limted to 400 copies. Alternatively you can purchase it digitally from indiestore.

The Loft have also had their previous recordings collated and released earlier this year on Revola (Cherry Red Records).
