You & The Atom Bomb - Shake Shake Hello?!
Shake Shake Hello?! is the debut (mini) album from the Bristol four piece You & The Atom Bomb and is the follow up to last years debut 7" Velocipedes/Hotel Terminus.
This is an energetic mix of boy/girl vocals, shimmering beats with furious and sometimes chaotic guitars up against dancey-ish rhythms that will overload your nervous systems sensations. It's the sheer energy coming out the speakers that blows you away and you can actually feel the ground shake as you bop up and down to infectious tracks such as Marvellous Transmissions Of Star Craft, Behold Coelacanth and Still Wake.
There is not one bad track on here and Shake Shake Hello?! will definitely be part of this summers soundtrack.
Shake Shake Hello?! is out on July 3rd 2006 on Sink and Stove Records

The KBC - Not Anymore
The new single from The KBC carries on in the same vein from their debut single Pride Before The Fall with a few more jangly and dancey bits complete with some snarling vocals thrown in. It's nowt original, harking back to the heady days of indie-dance but good fun none the less. However i'm not sure about bands who name songs after themselves but the b-side KBC is somewhat deficient and sounds like the filler it is, rounded off in a style Jesus Jones would have been proud off.
The singles are great but the lack of supporting material on the b-sides make you wonder if they are running out of ideas already. The boring Performance remix of Not Anymore suggest that I could well, and sadly, be right.
Not Anymore is due out on July 3rd 2006 on High Voltage Sounds.

Bobby Baby - Loves To Dance EP
Despite releasing an EP or two on the net this is Bobby Baby's debut in a "hard" format. The tracks on this EP shifts from the whispering (Later) to the more upbeat and slightly dancey (The Some Place New). However the stand out track for me is the hauntingly beautiful Goodbye Love and the Swedish chanteuse demonstrates why her voice is one of the most golden you will find on the net. The nearest comparision I can find is Billie Ray Martin's classic Ambient Tales released a few moons ago.
The Loves To Dance EP is out now on Red Letter Day Records or you can stream via My Space
Later from the EP and a video of Goodbye Love along with the previous Net EP's can be downloaded from Bobby Baby's music page.
Mocca - My Diary
A beautifully packaged re-issue of Indonesian band Mocca's 2003 debut complete with extra tracks.
This album is, as they say with the football world cup fast approaching, a game of two halves. Mocca have quite a number of ideas and influences but when fused together it somehow doesn't work. The tracks have been written sequentially (based on their story telling concept according to Mocca's site) and herein lies the problem which results in inconsistency.
Much of this album is inspired by the twee pop scene but gets a bit too sickly sweet at times. There are other influences such as big bands, jazz and campfire songs. However when it collides with the indie-pop influences it results in a somewhat soggy mire as tracks like Me & My Boyfriend and Sunday Afternoon demonstrate.
Highlights are Twist Me Around, And The Rain Will Fall, My Only One and Life Keeps Turning. As good as they are i'm hard pressed to recommend purchasing this album despite the beautiful packaging. 5/10.
My Diary is out now on Fruit Records Stream via My Space.
To win this CD e-mail me at the blog address and tell me the name of movie that inspired Mocca's record last year. First one out of the hat wins. Closing date is Friday June 16th 2006.
